Can Criminals Get Any Dumber?

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 46 Comments

BREAKING NEWS!  Justice Betrayed was chosen as a Fresh Pick by Fresh Fiction. This is HUGE! since the Fresh Pick is chosen by a group of readers and is never a purchased advertisement or promotion…read more here!

Now back to our regularly scheduled post…

Last Saturday afternoon was a pleasant 87 degrees with low humidity, rare for North Mississippi in July, and my friend and I stopped at a downtown park in Corinth. In the ten or so years it’s been downtown, I’ve never visited it.

What I discovered was a neat trail with all kinds of trees–spruce, birch, poplar…I was really surprised and glad I’d stopped. And it made me wonder what other treasure have I overlooked?

Now for the answer to last week’s Mystery Question: Four more dumb criminal scenarios, one of them false. Which of the stupid criminal stories did I make up?
  1.  While a man was appearing in court to plead not guilty for stealing a car, police were scanning the license plates in the parking lot and discovered one car that had been stolen. Yep, the man pleading not guilty had driven to court in a different stolen car.
  2. A store clerk scanned the lottery ticket the customer handed in and when she saw it was a $600 winner, she quietly slipped it in her purse, replacing it with a $5 winner. After handing the customer the $5, she was arrested by the customer–a Lottery undercover agent who was doing a routine “integrity check” of the store.
  3. Two men used a gun to rob a man of his wallet, then hopped in their getaway car and took off. Ten minutes later the police found them on the side of the road where their car had run out of gas.
  4. Police discovered several bundles of twenty-dollar bills stuffed in the jacket pockets of clothes donated for a charity yard sale. They posted an ad in the paper thanking the unknown person for donating the clothes and offered to return the funny money if the person wanted to claim it. So far, no takers.

And the answer is: Many of you guessed it: #4.

Now for this week’s Mystery Question: More dumb criminal scenarios. As usual, three are real and one is made up. Which is the false scenario?
  1. The tables were turned on a “stranger” when he tried to draw an off-duty policeman into a pigeon drop scam.
  2. Would-be escape artists made it out of prison only to be caught when they visited a nearby escape game room less than twenty-four hours later.
  3. The not-so-smart dope dealer called police to report the theft of $50 and an ounce of cocaine. Officers also found a crack rock and crack pipe on the console of his car.
  4. A thief stole what he thought was phone chargers that could be resold. The devices turned out to be trackers which transmit their locations within 30 feet every 60 seconds when in recovery mode, and they were in recovery mode.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which scenario did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library. And I wonder, is there a place in your hometown you’ve overlooked?

Congratulations on Justice Betrayed getting chosen as a Fresh Pick!

I choose number 2 because I don’t think escaped prisoners would voluntarily get locked inside a room again.

Congratulations on being chosen as a Fresh Pick!! And the park looks lovely. We were pretty familiar with places in our hometown, but we are new to this area and constantly finding new places to explore. There are some great discoveries!

My answer for this week is #1. You definitely have to wonder at so many of these people…..

I love discovering new places! My husband and I were blessed to be able to go to Greece a few months ago for our 25th anniversary. We also visited Corinth. Seeing your “Civil War Corinth” sign reminded me of that visit.

I’m going with number two this time.

Oh, Jeanna, I wish I’d known you were in Corinth! This is a beautiful town with so many interesting places to visit. Thanks so much for stopping by and next time you’re in town, let me know and I’ll buy you a cup of coffee!

Congratulations on your Fresh Pick choice. I say #2. Yesterday on our news a man was arrested for his own kidnapping. He tried to get $2000 ransom from his family and was arrested at the drop off.

I choose #3! Electronics are an easy pic, but harder to figure out what they actually do sometimes! LOL
Congratulations on the award! That book is next on my TBR pile!!

Awesome news about the Fresh Pick! Congrats! I know that there are places here in our area that we haven’t checked out. Such homebodies. I am going with #2 this week.

I pick #3 for no apparent reason. I think if they escaped and went to an escape room it was because they were feeling cocky about escaping the real jail and thought the escape room would be easy. I watch the tv show “Live PD” because it makes me feel so smart. It is amazing what some people think the police will believe. Obviously using drugs or drinking affects their judgment.

I have been in meetings the last two day so my brain is not functioning well at this point. I’ll just stick with #2.

Congrats on the Fresh Fiction pick for Justice Betrayed! What a fun thing for you to find out 🙂

For this week, I’m going to go with #2…a total guess because you always stump me with these scenerios, Patricia!
I can’t wait to see pictures of your finished bathrooms, hopefully they are nearly done by now. Stay cool in Mississippi, though I’m sure you stay close to your A/C!

I was traveling when this first came out. I’ll go with #1 although I’d be delighted if it were #2, getting caught in an escape room. You’re getting lots of commnents, and I’ll have to look for that park 🙂
