Back to Crazy Crimes is this week’s Mystery Question. I hope you will enjoy figuring out which of these crazy crimes I made up. But first the photo and verse.
I took the photo at Roan Mountain–it’s where we had a picnic (do you hear “pic-a-nic” when you say or read picnic?). The beauty of this tree captured me, and I’m not even sure what kind it was, but it reminded me of the verse in Isaiah 61.
Now for last week’s Darwin Awards #3 Mystery Question. Three of these stories are sadly true, and I made up a fourth one. Can you guess which one.
- Perched on this rickety wooden stack of pallets, a 40-year-old convinced a colleague to forklift them to the ceiling. Anyone experienced with a haphazard construction of pallets can identify the problem with this and understand why it fell…
- A 71-year-old woman smoking outside a hospital died from third-degree burns after her oxygen ventilator ignited, setting fire to the plastic upholstery of her wheelchair.
- A 45-year-old man was hospitalized after taking home a rather large projectile he’d found using his metal detector at a Civil War battlefield (this is illegal by the way). Curious as to what was in it, he pounded it with a hammer, causing an explosion.
- Three men, three elephants — a perfect setting for a selfie, except for the shrubbery that got in the way. The men tried to drive the elephants around the shrubbery, only to have the bull elephants turn on them. This set up the perfect “you don’t have to run fast, just faster than the man in front of you” scenario which was unfortunate for the last man.
And the answer is…the popular #3. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!
Now for this week’s Back to Crazy Crimes Mystery Question. As usual, three are true, and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
- A 23-year-old man fresh out of prison decided to hijack a semi truck loaded with 10 shiny Chevrolet Corvettes worth over $1.25 million for his ride home. Like you can ride home in a semi loaded with 10 shiny Chevrolet Corvettes.
- Where do you hide from police if you’re wanted for multiple felonies? Why a dryer, of course. That’s where deputies found their wanted fugitive and pulled him out limb by limb.
- Whatever you do, don’t speed if you have a boldly labeled bag with “Definitely not a bag full of drugs” that has drugs in it. That’s what happened when police pulled a car over for speeding and then spied the labeled bags.
- A man thought the police would be looking for a woman if he dressed in women’s clothing and wore a woman’s blond wig when he stole a Mercedes parked outside a bank. Unfortunately, he made a critical mistake when he forgot to shave his dark beard, which drew the attention of several witnesses who gave the police a good description of the thief.
Okay, Super Sleuths, I hope you enjoyed these. Which one do you think I made up? Leave your answer in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!
Back to Crazy Crimes is this week's Mystery Question. As usual, three are true and I made up one. Can you guess which one? Share on XDon’t forget the digital copy of Shadows of the Past is on sale this month for $2.99! It’s a great way to learn the backstory of Scott Sinclair, the protagonist of On the Edge of Trust! In fact the whole series is on sale!
Now for this week’s music. I was out of church for many years, and this is one of the first songs I heard when I returned. Thank God He continues to pursue us when we wander!

Hi Martha! So far no one has picked the same one…we’ll see next week…
#4? It’s crazy to think that 3 of these are true!

I know Barbie D! I really have a lot of trouble thinking up a crime to equal the real ones. 🙂 We’ll see if it’s #4 next week.
# 4 I think is not the right answer Have a Blessed Day

Love it, Sarah! 🙂
Photo and verse are great together. Rich Mullens once sang at our church when we lived in Rochester, MN. Beautiful voice. Thanks for the memory, Pat.
Crazy crimes:
#1. Well, that took a lot of planning. Could Darwin Award be around the corner?
#2. At least he came clean.
#3. Hiding in plain sight.
#4. Ah, the old bearded lady disguise.
At least some criminals are still dumb. I think you made up #4. It’s too funny.

Love your logic as always, Tim. We’ll see next week. Rich Mullens’ My God is an Awesome God ministered to me at a time I really needed it.
I just watched that video from YouTube and scrolled down for some of the comments. There, I saw that several had indicated that he had passed away. I was unaware of that. On September 19, 1997 he and a friend lost control of their jeep, and Rich died in the accident.

I remember when he died–I’d just discovered him and he was gone. Sad for us, but not for him.
I am going with #1. I enjoyed the Rich Mullins video. I haven’t seen that rendition before.
I will pick two. You have made me want to read Isaiah more!
I love the tree picture, especially against the puffy clouds and blue sky. Beautiful verse!
This week, I choose number 1 because a Corvette transport truck is too conspicuous!
#4
We have two huge oak trees in our yard, I love that verse.
I’m going with #4.

From Caryl Kane: #4
I am guessing #1 this time.
Rich Mullins was one of our sons’ favorite Christian musicians and they were able to attend one of his concerts at a local church. Unfortunately, I did not get to go. Our oldest son learned to play this song for one of his piano recitals and also played it at the two churches where his piano teacher’s husband preached. It is a very special song to us, so thank you for sharing it. It brought back a lot of memories from over 20 years ago.

I love that song, Carolyn! So glad I could bring happy memories. We’ll see next week if it’s #1…

We’ll see, Mary, but you seem to be in good company. lol
Beautiful picture! (Install the LeafSnap app on your phone if you want to identify the tree.) That’s a great verse. I love the song. Many years ago when our son was a teenager, he would be asked from time to time to sing specials at our church. When he heard Awesome God, he played it for my wife and asked about singing it. She thought it was too up tempo for a church like ours that still sang many of the old hymns. He sang the song one Sunday night and told on his mom. A few months later, the worship leader chose that same song for the congregation to sing in the morning worship son. Our son looked at his mom with a smirk on his face.
I think the guy in #4 would probably have gotten away if he had thought to dye his beard blonde. LOL! I think you made this one up. I’m guessing the others, although very dumb, probably happened.

Love the story about your son, Edward! Our church has gone from more sedate to upbeat. lol We’ll see if you’re right about #4 next week…
Going with number #4. Always liked the song.
