Back To Crazy Crimes 2 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 50 Comments

Back To Crazy Crimes 2 is this week’s Mystery Question. But first the photo and verse. I took the photo when we were trying to find our way to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We’d stopped at Mast General Store near Boone, NC, and after visiting the store, we had a picnic (pic-a-nic–Go Yogi!)

When we got ready to leave and tried to connect to GPS, there was absolutely no signal! So we asked for directions, which a clerk was happy to give. “Go down the road a couple of miles and take a right, then in about half a mile you’ll see a substation on the left. Turn there, then turn right and then left, and when you come to a mountain road, turn left again.” (I’m surprised I remembered the directions as I didn’t at the time.)

Thankfully, when we reached the first turn, GPS picked up, and we were off. The photo was taken on the little mountain road that was a perfect setting for a book I was working on. it was also only wide enough for one vehicle…if we’d met anyone, someone would’ve had to back up to a turnout. 🙂 I thought the verse was perfect for it.

Now for last week’s Back to Crazy Crimes Mystery Question. As usual, three are true, and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
  1. A 23-year-old man fresh out of prison decided to hijack a semi truck loaded with 10 shiny Chevrolet Corvettes worth over $1.25 million for his ride home. Like you can ride home in a semi loaded with 10 shiny Chevrolet Corvettes.
  2. Where do you hide from police if you’re wanted for multiple felonies? Why a dryer, of course. That’s where deputies found their wanted fugitive and pulled him out limb by limb.
  3. Whatever you do, don’t speed if you have a boldly labeled bag with “Definitely not a bag full of drugs” that has drugs in it. That’s what happened when police pulled a car over for speeding and then spied the labeled bags.
  4. A man thought the police would be looking for a woman if he dressed in women’s clothing and wore a woman’s blond wig when he stole a Mercedes parked outside a bank. Unfortunately, he made a critical mistake when he forgot to shave his dark beard, which drew the attention of several witnesses who gave the police a good description of the thief.

And the answer is #1. Congrats to all who guessed correctly.

Now for this week’s Mystery Question, More Crazy Crimes 2. As usual, three are true, and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
  1. It took police and firefighters thirty minutes to push a burglar back through the narrow window he tried to escape through after a homeowner returned home unexpectedly.
  2. An aspiring bank robber wearing sunglasses and socks over his shoes fled the bank after the teller refused to hand over the cash he demanded. He was quickly nabbed. Did he think no one would notice his disguise?
  3. A would-be robber brandished a cucumber at a loan office and demanded money, only to be tackled by an off-duty officer.
  4. Closed-circuit TV showed a would-be hotel burglar wearing a bag over his head as he exited a room with the goods. He entered another room and took off the bag. Then stepped back into the hallway, where the closed-circuit camera got a perfect shot of his face.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

Just a reminder that On the Edge of Trust releases November 4th. It is set ten years after Shadows of the Past, and follows up on what happened to Nick Sinclair’s teenage brother. Right now, the digital copy of Shadows of the Past and the other books in the series are on sale!

Now for this week’s song, “I Can Only Believe.” I’ve loved this song since I first heard it. I hope you do as well!

Oh these were so funny, Pat! The cucumber won my heart, so #3. I actually got the answer from last week correct! Glory be!

Love that mountain road. Oh yes, a great setting for your next book. Ooh only one lane. Glad you didn’t meet another car. Backing up would NOT be fun!!!

Very nice photo and verse. Where do I sign up for a visit? Back in the late 70s I was doing a lot of exploring around the Shenandoah National Park. Scenery was similar, and I even did some tent camping there. At your pic-a-nic, did you run into any teddy bears?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH1-al10hgI. Speaking of getting directions, 40 years ago, I was tooling around New England, and stopped at a farm house to get directions. He started with the landmark directions, like turn right where the old Smith’s place used to be… He saw my blank expression and said, “I don’t think you can get there from here.” For real.

    Crazy crime analysis:
#1. Case of the shrinking window opening.
#2. The old socked shoe disguise.
#3. Stick-up man: “Your money or your life.” Jack Benny: “I’m thinking about it.”
#4. And that’s how the police bagged the thief.
Do you think the crooks really are getting dumber? It surely seems that way. I’ll go with #1 as the one you made up. Escape planning 101.

What a beautiful photo. I wouldn’t want to drive that road at night in the rain or snow, though, yikes. The verse is perfect.
I’m guessing #2 this time because an unsuccessful bank robber wouldn’t be smart enough to put socks over his shoes to hide his unique shoe print.

That picture looks so familiar. I don’t believe I’ve ever been on that stretch of road, but it is so much like numerous roads in the Appalachian Mountains. I have traveled on my share. Although you could have taken US Route 321 out of Boone to the Parkway, Google Maps would probably have routed you the way you went. The developers seemingly designed GPS to draw a straight line between two points and route us on anything near that line that resembles a road. The scripture verse is quite fitting for the picture. I enjoyed the song.

I’m sticking with #4. Sooner or later, it will be the correct guess. The other three sound like wackos whereas #4 sounds like a simple slip-up.

According to Google Maps, there is a Mast General Store in Boone, so I thought that was the location. Were you at the Valle Crucis store in Sugar Grove? That one appears to be some distance further away from the Parkway. I just discovered that there is a Mast General Store in Roanoke, VA, about an hour north of my home. I need to check them out sometime when I’m in Roanoke, which is fairly often. Roanoke has far more doctors and better medical facilities than Martinsville.

Edward, the clerk there said the store in Boone was their warehouse. I guess the store we went to was in Sugar Grove…I’ve been to so many of the small towns I forget where they are. lol

The perfect verse for that beautiful photo! I, too, have loved that song from the first time I heard it.

These are all funny but I’ll guess #3

My comment didn’t post so here goes again. I am guessing #3 this week. I love the photo of the country road. It looks so peaceful.
