Lamentations3:22-23 August Mystery Questions Week 4

Welcome to August Mystery Questions Week 4, but before we get to those, I want to talk about the scripture in the photo. No matter what we’re going through, we have comfort in knowing God loves us and He is with us.

And Family Fiction is holding their annual poll for your favorite Christian Suspense Author. Here’s your chance to vote for your five favorites! (Of course, I’d love to have one of your votes!) Just click on the picture below and it will take you to their poll!

Family Fiction Favorite Christian Suspense Author

Now for last week’s Mystery Questions: More local blotter reports. Three are true, one is not. Can you guess the made-up report?
  1. Police arrested a machete-wielding woman after she attempted to steal an ambulance and threatened a medic. She gave no reason for why she wanted the ambulance.
  2. A woman called 911 in distress when she discovered a turtle upside down in her backyard. The dispatcher told her to turn it right side up. The woman called back a few minutes later and tearfully reported that now the turtle didn’t have any arms or legs.
  3. A naked man entered through a bedroom window and attempted to burglarize a home while the owners were eating dinner. Unfortunately, he wasn’t very quiet about it and the homeowner discovered him. The man escaped, but police found his discarded clothes outside the window with his wallet and driver’s license.
  4. A man reported a male suspect had been harassing him via Facebook, saying he was going to “smoke” the man, and his family better get ready for a funeral. The man said he doesn’t know the suspect, but he is dating the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.

And the answer is…#2. I guess I made it a little too cute since so many of you guessed it–congrats! Will try to do better this week.

Now for August Mystery Questions Week 4: More local blotter reports–can you believe the kinds of crime going on in this small area of North Mississippi? Anyway, three are true believe it or not, and one is not. Can you guess the made-up report?
  1. Police received a call from an elderly woman who said she heard noises in her kitchen. When police arrived, they found no evidence of anyone else being in the house. She asked them since they were there, would they open a jar of pickles for her.
  2. A man reported to police that his wife took his cane and he couldn’t walk without it. The wife said he’d misplaced his cane and there was no problem. When the deputies arrived, he’d found his cane.
  3. After purchasing gas, a man stuck his card into the receipt slot instead of the card slot and couldn’t remove it. When he asked for assistance, the clerk was rude. He tried to give the clerk his phone number, and the clerk refused, so he called 911. By the time deputies arrived, the man had left and the clerk had retrieved the card. The deputy returned the card.
  4. A woman reported her mother-in-law had taken her keys and wouldn’t give them back. When deputies arrived, the m-i-l returned the keys, but a check revealed a pair of warrants. She was taken to the county jail and booked.

Bradley Haynes October 19, 1976 — August 23, 2020

A Postscript: This post is dedicated to the memory of my nephew, Bradley Haynes. He loved my Mystery Questions. He fought a long and hard battle against spina bifida and its complications. He will be missed.

There will be no “What I’m Reading Friday” post this week.

Paula, thank you. Brad was quite a character. He loved to read and would have been a good writer if he’d just applied BICWC! (backside in chair with computer.)
      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Pearl Watson

Sorry for loss loss. God’s comfort on your family at this time.
Beautiful picture and 1 of my favorite verses.
I think #1 too. I wonder if it would really work.

I’m so sorry for you loss, Pat.

I love your photo and Scripture to go with it. So true.

You do have crazy crimes nearby! I’m going to say it’s #1. That’s the least believable in my opinion.

I was finally able to vote, but that web page does not work correctly in some web browsers. I reported that problem to them a week ago, but never got a response.

I’m sorry for Brad’s passing and your loss, too, Pat. He was clever and upbeat. I hopped to Fam. Fiction but after valiant tries couldn’t figure out how to vote (teach me) & I have internet modem problems. I hope you made up #4 but it’s not clear to me who got hauled off–the complainant or her mother-in-law?

    1. Tim Johnson

I had problems too, Delores. It doesn’t work with all browsers. I finally had to use Microsoft’s Edge browser. Once you have the web page loaded, you will see an image with a field where you can enter your e-mail address. Put your address in and click “Submit your ENTRY”. That should bring up a number of lines where you can enter the names of your favorite authors.

      Pat, I’m surprised your name isn’t pre-entered. 🙂

We’ll see, Delores if it’s #4 and it was the mother-in-law who was hauled off–whether it’s true or I made it up. lol. I need to fix that. Thanks for trying and for stopping by.

  6. Suzanne Sellner

I’m sorry about your nephew’s passing. I loved the Scripture you quoted. Finally, I vote for #1 (pickle jar) as being the one you fabricated.

Sorry for the loss of your nephew, but grateful he is no longer suffering.
Thanks for the verse. I hope its ok that I saved it – it is one of my favorites and the picture with it is so beautiful!
I think I will go with #4, since the m-i-l getting caught sounds almost too good to be true…lol

Thank you! Brad was so special.
Please do save the photo/meme and use it any way you’d like, Betti! That goes for all the scripture photos for everyone! And we’ll see if it’s #4 next week. 🙂

  8. MS Barb

So sorry about the loss of your nephew… I worked in special ed over 30 years and met a few people w/ spina bifida, and all of them were a delight to work with! I’ll guess #3

Thank you, MS Barb. Brad was such a special person. He graduated from Dyersburg State cum laude. And then went on to SeMo where he may not have learned as much, but he had a grand time. He did graduate with a Bachelor’s degree though.

  9. Trixi

Patricia I was so saddened to learn on Facebook about the loss of your nephew! 🙁 I know he will be greatly missed by you & your family. It’s so hard for those left behind & my prayers, hugs, and tears go out to you, my dear author friend. I hope those good memories will help you get through your grief as well as the Father’s arms around you.

As for this weeks mystery question, I will guess #3 because WHY would a gas attendant not do eveything they can to retrieve the bank card? I would have stayed there until my problem was resolved, with or without police assitance 🙂 But again, any of these can be true!

Thanks for the scripture reminder, God is ALWAYS faithful even when we aren’t. Now that truth can be taken to the bank!

I also voted and included you in my vote. SO many great suspense authors that it’s hard to NOT choose everyone of them 🙂 It’s like trying to pick your favorite family member….lol! Impossible to do.

God bless you Patricia! May His face shine upon you and give you grace.

Those kind of tears are the good kind, I think. When memories bring a watery smile to your face (and yes sadness), it can be the best expression of your love for that person. I read a meme lately that said something to that effect….sometimes memories spill in your cheeks in the form of tears. It’s good to reflect on memories, even in the midst of grief….hopefully one day they will turn into laughter and smiles.

Amen, Trixi! I probably wouldn’t have posted the Mystery Question today, except it was already scheduled, and I went in and added the tribute to Brad. I wanted to acknowledge him some way.

I am sorry for the loss of your nephew, Pat. We lost my mother in June and it is hard when I want to reach for the phone to call her. I am going with #3. Why would he put his card in after purchasing the gas?

Thank you, Gloria. This has been one of my hardest losses. While I know he’s in a better place, I grieve for those he left behind. But one day we shall meet again! Thanks so much for stopping by and we’ll see if it’s #3 next week!

  11. Caryl Kane

Pat, I’m so sorry for your loss. I imagine Bradley had quite the Welcome Home party!
I’ve voted in the Family Fiction poll.

    I’m guessing #3 is false.

I had a full day and am late getting here. I’m not sure how some of your readers have responded before 6:00 AM. Since retirement, getting up that early almost seems like a sin. LOL!

I was sorry to read that your beloved nephew passed away. You have my condolences.

I am choosing #4 this week. I’m not real sure why, but I think it’s because it’s the only one that resulted in an arrest. Crazy way to pick one, I guess.

Edward, thank you for your condolences. He will really be missed. Retirement. Not sure what that is. lol. I simply changed jobs and usually get up between 5-6 when I’m on deadline. Like now. We’ll see next week if it’s #4. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Thanks, Erika. And thank you for voting for me. I just finished reading Lamentations, too. I read through the Bible each year chronologically, and it’s like God knew I’d need those verses. Actually not like He knew, He did know. Thanks so much for dropping by today and we’ll see next week if it’s #1.

  15. Joni

Thanks for the gorgeous picture and verse. So apt for us today. Sorry for your loss. I often get comments from people about how I will receive a special reward for my special needs child. People don’t realize they are the reward. I am going with # 3 this week. Thanks to Tim for letting me know how to get to vote. Tried over and over. I was sure ‘I’ was missing something. Glad to know it wasn’t me this time. MS Edge worked like a charm.

Joni, I know what you mean. Brad was such a blessing to us all. Never complained and always told everyone he loved them. He’s one of the few people I know who love unconditionally.

I’ll have to check out MS Edge! I had never heard of it until Tim mentioned it. Thanks so much for commenting and we’ll see next week if it’s #3.
