And They Did What? is the Mystery question for this week…you’ll understand the title when you see the crimes. But first the photo and a few words on the New Year.
I’ve already messed up writing 2022 at least twice, still wanting to write 2021. Have no idea why because I was very happy to see 2021 end. 2022 isn’t starting off quite as I’d like. Two days before Christmas, I got out of bed and almost went to the floor because of back pain. I have never, ever had problems with my back. It might get sore if I raked leaves, but that’s it.
I sort of floated through Christmas in a haze and first thing Tuesday morning, I was at my doctor’s office. An X-ray showed bone spurs, but the doctor didn’t think that was my problem so she ordered an MRI which I’ll have on Wednesday. Although I haven’t gotten my MD license, I’ve diagnosed my problem as a herniated disc. 😉 We’ll see.
One positive–I just ordered one of those desks where you can electronically raise it so I can stand and type. Been wanting one, but couldn’t justify spending the money. With a book due the first of May, I can now justify it.
Oh! I don’t know if I’ve ever told y’all this, but I am mathematically challenged. All this time I thought I had five months (January–May) to write this first book of my new series. I’ll see if your math is any better than mine.
I truly hope 2022 is a better year for my family than 2020 and 2021. But if not, God has it. Everything that comes is filtered through His hands.
Isaiah 43:1-3 are some of my favorite verses in the Bible:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
3 For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
Now for this week’s Mystery Question. As usual, three are true and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
- A woman in aisle 20 of a Big Box store looked up when a man approached and told her he had a strange request. He wanted to kiss her feet, and he wouldn’t take no for an answer. She thought she would get rid of him if she told him he could kiss the top of her shoe. He dropped to all fours and proceeded to pull her sock down and kiss her ankle. That’s when she took out her phone and called the police.
- Police arrested a man trying to raise funds by washing cars to buy back his parrot from a local pawn shop. The problem? First of all, the car washes weren’t wanted, and second, the abrasive water from a nearby river ruined the finish on the cars, and he became rude when the car owners refused to pay him. The police shut him down and he threw his cart and supplies down the stairs that led to a scenic walkway on the river. That’s when they arrested him.
- When police noticed a car weaving from one side of the boulevard to the other, the officer pulled the car over. Before the officer could ask the obviously high young man for his license, he handed him his keys and said, “I need you to take me home.” When the officer asked if the young man had been drinking, he vehemently denied it, saying the state had taken his license for drinking and he wasn’t making that mistake again. So he’d smoked marijuana instead.
- A car pulled up to a blinking yellow light and stopped, getting the attention of a nearby policeman. After a minute, the car moved forward and the officer followed the car, and when it ran the red traffic light, he pulled over the driver, a lady. She lowered her window and the odor of whiskey alerted him to the strong possibility that she was inebriated. When he asked her to rate herself on a scale of zero-to-ten for drunkenness, she offered that she was a five. The breathalyzer confirmed her guess and she was taken to jail.
Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a January drawing for a book from my library. And because I have accumulated several new books, I’ll draw two names this month!

I have to say #4.
Author
Hi Mary! We’ll see if it’s #4 next week! Blessings for the New Year.
Number 1. I can feel the creepiness from here! Did you know, over here (at least), we regularly get men running around with bottle of soapy water and windscreen-cleaning brush, cleaning our windscreens while we wait at red lights. Some people give them a little cash for the job. Only problem is, it’s illegal to do that, so leaves us feeling slightly nervous every time!
I pray that the MRI shows up the problem so that it can be sorted fairly easily, and in the meantime, enjoy the new desk that you finally have a reason to get!!
Months – it would depend on what part of May the book is due. Beginning – 4 months, middle – 4 1/2 months, end – 5ish months. That’s how I do math! 😛
Author
Hi Monique! We used to have men who did that in Memphis, but they finally put a stop to it. Never happened here in Corinth. 🙂
And unfortunately, the due date is May 2…Blessings for the New Year.
I hope your back feels better soon! I’m guessing number 4 because (okay, don’t laugh) it’s the longest, and sometimes made up explanations go on too long. (Parents know what I mean, right?)
Author
Thanks, Priscilla. I love your logic, and while it’s true, we’ll see if it applies to this scenario. 🙂 Blessings for the New Year.
I’m guessing #1.
Hope you back heals quickly.
Author
Thank you, Suzanne! We’ll see next week if it’s #1.
I pick #4 just because it has a different vibe from the others, however, I’m hoping it’s #1 because that’s seriously creepy!
May the Lord bless you with healing and give your doctor His wisdom.
Author
I love how everyone is hoping it’s #1, L Murphy! We’ll see next week. Blessings for the New Year.
I’m going to say #1.
Author
We’ll see, Heather. Thanks for stopping by! Blessings for the New Year.
Well these are dillies, I really can’t guess, but I’ll go with #4 being made up. We all want you feeling better soon!
Author
Glad you think they’re dillies, Delores! We’ll see if it’s #4 next week! Blessings for the New Year.
I’m really hoping it’s #1 because that man is just too creepy to contemplate! As for your back, I LOVE my elevating desk. I bought it about 4 years ago when I had the travel business and was constantly shifting between files, phone and computer and back was in agony. Now I often write while standing. Hope it helps. Get one with adjustable heights which you can program for seated, standing and standing on a balance pad (helps with balance and passive muscle conditioning for core — sorry, I was a corrective exercise specialist for 18 years and it comes out again sometimes. LOL).
Author
Thank you for the suggestion about the balance pad! I do pilates and may have one around here. I’m really missing my pilates! But the doctor said wait until we see what the MRI says. And we’ll see if it’s #1 next week. 🙂 Blessings for the New Year.

We’ll see…Blessings for the New Year.
Pat, I am so sorry you back is giving you such trouble. I know what that can be like. I hope you get an accurate diagnosis quickly, and a treatment plan that is effective.
If any of those four scenarios is true, those people are really weird. I think it’s between #1 and #2, and I’m choosing #1 because aside from the guy being a nut job, what woman in that circumstance would calmly call the police? I think she would be kicking him, and yelling for help.
Finally, that is a beautiful photo, and it really goes with the Scripture you chose.
Author
Thanks, Tim! Love your logic as always, and we’ll see if it works this time. Blessings for the New Year.
Loved the photo and Scriptures. Reading it was like the breath of God blowing across my face. Sometimes meditation restores just when we need it. The Isaiah passage…one of my absolute favorites.
Pat, all four of these crimes were challenging! Poor officers having to deal with these people!
I’m going with #4. I liked that the officer asked the lady to rate to rate her inebriation, then arrested her when the test proved true.
Yes, I did get a gift card for Christmas! It was a complete shock, because it arrived in the mail a few days later. Our senior adult group happens to be going to this restaurant later in January, so we’re getting a free meal! Yay!
Praying for your back and relief from the pain. Hope the new desk helps.
Author
Thanks, Barbara…I hope this pain issue leaves as suddenly as it came. We’ll see if it’s #4, which is very popular this week. 😉 Blessings for the New Year.
#1
I pray your back gets better quickly.
Author
Thanks, Phyllis! We’ll see if it’s the also popular #1 next week. I’m loving the place I’m getting these stories. lol Blessings for the New Year.
I am guessing #4 this week. Hope your back is better soon.
Author
Thanks, Gloria! We’ll see next week if it’s the popular #4! Blessings for the New Year.
2. Thanks for the chance.
Author
You’re welcome, Lynn! Blessings for the New Year.
I am going with #2. I hope you feel better soon. Praying for you.
Author
Thank you for the prayers. With a book due in 4 months, this is not the time for back trouble! 🙂 We’ll see next week if it’s #2. Blessings for the New Year.
#2 (where would you get water that ruins the finish on cars? (that’s a scary thought!) I pray you are well soon!
Author
We’ll see MS Barb. I think I left out the part about the water coming from a nearby river…just in case you want to change your answer. 🙂 Blessings for the New Year.
I guess I’m going with #2. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Author
Thanks, Diana! And we’ll see next week if it’s #2. Have a Blessed 2022!
My guess is #1 is made up. It’s just too creepy.
Author
It is creepy, isn’t it, Megan. We’ll see next week. Have a Blessed 2022!
First, I must say that God used some gorgeous colors when he painted that sunset. Wow! Love the verse. It suits.
Don’t feel bad about messing up writing 2022. I caught myself all thru last year starting to write 2012, or 2019, or some other year. I have no idea why since I’ve never had that problem before.
I pray you will get suitable answers regarding your back and that the answer will not involve any surgery or other drastic measures.
I think #1 is made up. I can’t quite picture any self-respecting woman standing in a store aisle listening to such a proposition, or making a counter-proposition. But to remain still while he pulled her sock down is just over-the-top insane. This can’t be “for real.”
Author
As always, I love your logic, Edward. We’ll see if it pans out next week…I love that sunset, too! Have a Blessed 2022!
My guess would have to # 2. It was a hard choice.
Author
Hi Beverly! I’m so glad it was a hard choice. 😀 We’ll see next week what the answer is. Have a Blessed 2022!
I would say # 2 is the one you made up. # 1 is so weird that it could be true, same with # 3, #4. It’s been a long journey to get us to where we are today but it’s been 2 years since the tornado hit.
Author
Janet, isn’t it amazing how we date things…i.e. before the tornado, after the tornado, etc. I do the same thing with catastrophic events. 🙂 We’ll see next week if it’s #2. Have a blessed 2022!
love the verse and picture! Hope you are soon feeling better with back pain! I’ll pick #2 this time. sheliarha64@yahoo.com
Author
Thank you, Shelia! I expect to be feeling better soon. We’ll see next week if it’s #2. Have a blessed 2022!
I’ll guess #2 . Blessings
Author
Number two is turning out to be very popular, Lucy. We’ll see next week. Have a blessed 2022!
Happy, Blessed and Prosperous 2022!
#3
Author
Thank you, Caryl. We’ll see next week! Have a blessed 2022!
I’m guessing #3, why would you tell an officer the state took your license when you are caught driving in the first place, not to mention that you are high while doing it? LOL! But I bet I’m going to find out I guessed incorrectly 😉
Patricia, I hope they find the cause of your back issue & that it can get resolved or at least find some relief from the pain. I’ve had my lower back go out before & it’s excruciating to move (if you can in the first place). I’ll be keeping you in my prayers!
Here’s hoping 2022 will see better things to come!
Author
Trixi, I love your logic! We’ll see next week how it works for you. lol I did the MRI and I have several bulging discs and will be going to PT. I don’t know how I’ve gotten by this far without pain. Have a blessed 2022!
Pat, I’m glad you will be trying PT first. I’m a big believer in the benefits of PT. I’ve gotten good benefit from it myself, and I’ve seen it in others. May God give you strength and healing.
Author
Tim, I’m a big believer in PT! Hoping to get an appointment sooner rather than later. 🙂 Thanks for the prayer!

Author
We’ll see, Patricia! Have a blessed 2022!
3. I have back pain occasionally too and it is really hard to do anything. I do pray though the God will give the doctors wisdom to know what to do to fix it, whether it be a spur or a disc has moved slightly. May you know His peace and strength in your life.
Author
Thank you, Sue. I should start PT next week and find out what I should and shouldn’t be doing. We’ll see if it’s #3 next week. Have a blessed 2022!
Hi Patricia, sure hope your back is feeling better soon. My husband has been plagued with back problems for years, so I know how debilitating it can be. Enjoy your new desk, hope it helps. My guess would be # 3. No. 1 was my first guess, but even though it sounds creepy, it may have been in another country where it may not be uncommon. Thanks for the chance of winning & God Bless
Author
I’m liking your logic, too, Barb! I see more and more are choosing #3. And thank you about the well-wishes for my back. I’m hoping PT will get it under control. Have a blessed 2022!
I’ll guess #4. I know of an author who was at a big box store and this guy did follow her because he liked her feet! Her husband, thank goodness, was in the next aisle!
Author
Oh, my, Paula, that is hilarious! I’m glad her husband was around, though. We’ll see next week if it’s #4. Have a blessed 2022!
They’re all so off the wall they could be true! But I’m going to go with #2 as the fake one…
Author
I’m sorry you’re having a hard time figuring out which one it is, Holly. NOT. lol We’ll see next week! Have a blessed 2022!
Number 4

We’ll see, Deb…Good to see you here. Have a blessed 2022!
