And These People Walk Among Us

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 52 Comments

Here it is almost April 1st! Deadline approaches. Guess what? I’m still working on the book that’s due! So I’ll get right to last week’s crime:

Three of the following crimes are true. I made up one. Which did I make up? Leave your guess in the comments.
  1. An unidentified man, using a shotgun like a club to break a former girlfriend’s windshield, accidentally shot himself to death when the gun discharged, blowing a hole in his gut.
  2. A man accidentally shot himself to death when he awakened to the sound of a ringing telephone beside his bed, he reached for the phone but instead grabbed a Smith & Wesson 38 Special, which discharged when he drew it to his ear.
  3. A couple was watching a ten o’clock newscast where an individual was threatening to jump from a ledge. The man said he would jump, and the woman argued he wouldn’t. Unfortunately, he did and the woman was impressed with her friend’s knowledge of human nature. The man finally told her he wasn’t that smart–the news report was a repeat of an earlier broadcast. She replied that she’d seen it too, but didn’t think he would jump a second time.
  4. Police said a man demonstrating the safety of windows in a skyscraper rammed the pane with his shoulder and crashed through and plunged to his death. He was explaining the strength of the building’s windows to visiting law students.

And the answer is #3…several of you commented it sounded like a joke, and it was! I tweaked it a little, but I thought it was too good not to share. 🙂 But honestly, can you believe the other three are TRUE???!!!

Okay, now for this week’s Mystery Question: Three of the following scenarios are true. I made one of them up. Can you guess which one?
  1. A man suffered a fatal heart attack after getting his head stuck beneath an electric footrest at the movies while retrieving his cellphone from the floor.
  2. A 71-year-old woman smoking outside a hospital died from third-degree burns after her oxygen ventilator ignited, setting fire to the plastic upholstery of her wheelchair.
  3. A 50-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday after taking home a projectile he found in a field outside his village, and pounding it with a hammer, causing an explosion
  4. A woman was arrested when a motorist dialed 9-1-1 after seeing her knitting as she drove. When the officer pulled her over, she couldn’t understand the big fuss. “I do it all the time,” she told him, “and I’ve never had an accident.”

Okay Super Sleuths, which scenario did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments section and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

Why-in-the-world would anyone pound a projectile with a hammer?! Never mind. I’m between #3 and #4, but I think I’m going to go with-
Answer: #4 as being made up.

I’m choosing #4. It’s hard to choose any of them as false since someone somewhere has probably done these and just never was reported. We’ll see next week.

I’ll go with #4, because as a knitter, I know I can fall asleep knitting, but I don’t believe I would be able to drive and knit – I really would need another hand…lol

I am going with #1 this week. I want to let you know that I was able to read Justice Delivered through NetGalley and it is so good! Probably my favorite of the series. I had to make myself go finish weeding a flower bed yesterday that I started last week. You have a winner, Pat!

    #3–at least I hope it’s false!
#3- (at least I hope this one is false! I hope #1 & #2 are false too!) Unfortunately, I think #4 is true!

I’m going with #4 this time! Unfortunately, I can see the other 3 happening. I just went to the movies in a theater with recliner seats, and – you guessed it – I dropped my phone! It wasn’t easy, but I got it without incident! 😉

How can you drive while knitting? Wouldn’t you need two hands to knit? Oh dear…it does sound made up but I bet it’s true, lol!

I’m going to go with #1 this week. I’m not sure it would be enough of a electrical jolt to kill someone. Totally guessing because these are hard each week 🙂 They say truth is stranger than fiction, right?
