Once again, I was away from home, this time at our women’s ministry retreat. But I’m always working…doesn’t this look like a great place to hide a body??
And that streak? It’s a tiny bit of sunlight that broke through the trees. A funny that happened…I sleep with a pillow under my legs and when I made the bed up, I just threw the cover over the pillow, leaving a big lump…everyone wanted to know who put the body in the bed. 😉
And that log across the water? I’ve walked many such logs when I cruised timber with my husband…even fell in the water a time or two.
Now onto last week’s Mystery Question: This week I’m posting four crimes that have been solved. Of course, I’ve made up one of them. Can you guess which one?
- Two brothers were sentenced to the same minimum security prison and were assigned to the same wing. One week before their early release for good behavior, they got into a fight over a pair of shoes and had to serve their full time.
- A prison escapee is done in by his mother’s obituary when U.S. Marshalls noticed the name of her only son listed and his location.
- A woman arrested for possession of cocaine claims she knew nothing about the drug found in her purse. “It’s a windy day,” she said. “It must have flown through the window and into my purse.”
- A father was arrested, not for putting his gun in his son’s backpack, but because instead of reporting it to the police and having them retrieve the gun, he retrieved it himself.
And the answer is…#1. By the way, in #4, the father had the child called to the office where he took the gun out of the bag. A parent saw him and called the police. Congrats to everyone who got the right answer!
Now for this week’s Mystery Question. This one is from Facebook so you may have seen it, but I thought it was too good to pass up. One night a man receives a call from the police. The police tell him his wife has been murdered and he should reach the crime scene as quickly as possible. Apparently shocked, the man drops the phone and drives to the crime scene. As soon as he reaches the crime scene, he’s arrested and later convicted of his wife’s murder. How did the police know he committed the murder? Please make your guess before you look at the other comments, as someone is sure to figure it out. 🙂
[tweet_box design=”default” float=”none”]Why did the police arrest the man for his wife’s murder? Leave your answer and be entered in a drawing for a #bookgiveaway![/tweet_box]Leave your answer in the comments and next week I’ll pick a winner for a book from my library! And here’s another photo from my weekend. The area around Pickwick is beautiful! And kind of isolated.

I have not seen this on FB but, I’m guessing he dropped the phone in shock before getting the address of the scene . Lol.
I love your pictures!! When you mentioned the pillow under your covers I thought of how my daughters hide under blankets thinking I can’t see them, yet I see the body lump, lol. I wonder if that’s how silly we look to God when we try to hide our sins and faults;).

Ah, Jessica, the first to answer this morning. And that sounds like a good deduction to me! 🙂
This is my guess: The police never told him where the crime scene was and when they told the husband to come to the crime scene, they knew it was him. Only the person who committed the murder would know where it took place.
Now I could be completely wrong about it, but it seems a simple & logical conclusion to me. And I’m shocked that I guessed correctly last week…that’s a first in a long time 🙂

Trixi, I like your deductions! Thanks for stopping by!
How would he know where the crime scene was, unless he’d been there and committed the crime? I think he did it.
Author
Ah, Jan…maybe I made it too easy this week. lol Thanks for stopping by!
I’m guessing they didn’t tell the husband where the murder scene was located.

Hi Ellen! I’ll try and make next week’s mystery harder. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
I agree…that first pic is a great place for a body! Such a great shot with the shaft of light! I confess I have heard this one before so I know the answer. I still think it is a great one, though. He dropped the phone before being told the address of the crime scene. The only way he could know was if he had committed the crime.
Author
Diane, I didn’t even see that shaft of light until I took the picture. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Only the murderer would know where the crime scene was.

🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Tori!
Yes, go to the crime scene–he did because he knew where it was. Great police tactic. And I lovve that photo of the beam of light hitting the pond! I sleep w/ a pillow, too. More bodies . . .
Author
It was actually my preacher’s wife who pointed out that it looked like a body. lol Thanks for stopping by, Delores!
The police didn’t mention where the crime scene was before he dropped the phone, but he went directly there. Lovely area for your retreat!

Pickwick is such a beautiful place, Linda. Thanks for stopping by!
They didn’t tell him where the crime scene was!
Author
Paula, I think I made the question too easy this time. Next week I’ll do better. lol
He went right to the crime scene…that gave him away! Beautiful pics!
Author
Thanks, Jackie. I must start taking more pictures when I go places. Sometimes it just doesn’t occur to me! Thanks for stopping by!
The police never told him where the crime scene was and he showed up.
Author
Great answer, Beth. Thanks for stopping by!
My guess is they called him using her phone and he was shocked to be getting a call from “her”. Their suspicion paid off.

I love it, Edward! You really need to be writing a mystery! Thanks for stopping by!
Patricia, I enjoy reading mysteries and the thought of writing a book has crossed my mind. However, the idea leaves my mind just as quickly as it comes. Unlike many authors who have shared on their blogs that the stories just come to them, I have never had the faintest inkling of a story start to develop. It looks like I am the only one this week with a different answer. The answer everyone else is giving didn’t “jump out at me”. You did not say the police didn’t tell him the location of the crime. They could have stated where they were before telling him why they called.
Author
That’s why you would make a good writer, Edward! You have to anticipate readers thinking that way and set it up so that it’s believable. Next week’s mystery is a little different. 🙂
Since the description doesn’t say where the crime scene was, the man must have been guilty if he knew exactly where the crime was committed without being told.
Author
While this was made up, Suzanne, there are criminals out there that dumb! Thanks for stopping by!
I am guessing (and read anyone else’s answer) that they didn’t tell him where the crime scene was.
Author
Hi Gloria! Yeah, this one was way too easy so I’ve been scouring the internet to find something harder…just wait until next week! 🙂
I mean that I didn’t read anyone else’s answer!
because he drove straight to the murder scene without getting the address from police first
Author
Way to go, Shelia! Thanks for stopping in.
I haven’t seen this one on Facebook, so, he knew where the murder had happened without being told
Author
Good, Phyllis! We’ll see a new puzzle next week.
Such lovely pictures. And, yes, the husband must have rushed to the crime scene without being told where…..or when he dropped the phone, he had an accomplice with him who congratulated themselves on the job and the police were able to listen to this and record the round-about confession.

Thanks, Mindy. The lodge where we stayed was beautiful and so peaceful. Can’t wait to go again. And the speaker, Kelly Williams, brought a message about serving God that makes so much sense. She said, if we’re struggling and getting tired out in doing good, then we’re not working for God but ourselves. For His yoke is easy and His burden light. She’s learned that if God calls you to it, He will equip and surround you with people to help.
The police didn’t tell him where the crime scene was ,but he still went there. Obviously he murdered his wife since only that person would know where it was!
Author
Hi Martha T! Good reasoning! Thanks for stopping by.
My guess is he wasn’t told where to go to reach the crime scene. That he dropped the phone before the police told him where to go to reach the scene.
Author
Great deductions, Colleen! Thanks for stopping by.
Beautiful photo! The police didn’t tell him where to go other than the “crime scene”. Only way he would know was if he had killed her.
Author
Thanks, Pam. It was so peaceful there. And great deductions on the crime.
I must say, I’d be afraid to cross the log because the thought of falling into water terrifies me. Not only am I not a swimmer, but I panic if my face goes under water lol. I can’t help and smile at the visualization of you being submerged :), however I applaud your bravery.
Author
The slough I fell into was only knee-deep. lol But…I was soaking wet and we’d just bought a new pickup…I wasn’t sure my husband was going to let me ride in it back to the house…thankfully we found some plastic in the back and I wrapped up in it. 🙂
I haven’t seen it, but I would say because he drove to the crime scene without being told where it was.

Great deductions, Lucy! Thanks for dropping by.
OMG, that’s too funny! Men and their vehicles! 😉
LOL, the armchair sleuths are all in great form this week. 😉

Yes, Sandra, they are in rare form! Thanks for dropping in.
The wife told them.
