Another weekend spent looking for places to hide bodies on the Natchez Trace, this time up around my neck of the woods in the southeast corner of Alabama.
The smaller photo is of the Tennessee River and taken just off the Trace. The larger photo is at a Nature Trail on the Trace…very isolated…
I have been known to move rivers and streams to wherever I need them for my story. But I won’t be moving the Tennessee River, also known among American Indian tribes as the singing river. I think the Mississippi River will do quite nicely for my Natchez books. 🙂
Now for last week’s Mystery Question. This one is from Facebook so you may have seen it, but I thought it was too good to pass up. One night a man receives a call from the police. The police tell him his wife has been murdered and he should reach the crime scene as quickly as possible. Apparently shocked, the man drops the phone and drives to the crime scene. As soon as he reaches the crime scene, he’s arrested and later convicted of his wife’s murder. How did the police know he committed the murder?
Yes, you all got it right. 🙂 How did the man know where to go if he wasn’t the killer?
Now onto this week’s Mystery Question, which is a puzzle this time. Who is the murderer?
For the month of May, I’m giving away a copy of my latest book, Justice Betrayed. Study the photo and leave your guess in the comments section to be entered in a drawing for a copy of Justice Betrayed!
The winner for April is Lucy! I’ll be contacting you to see which book from my library you’d like. Next month I’m giving away a copy of the 3rd book in the Memphis Cold Case novels–Justice Betrayed! And I’d appreciate if you’d tweet! Just click on the cover and it should take you to Twitter!

I think it’s the guy with his arm in a sling. It looks like the victim was stabbed by a left-handed person. One’s right arm is incapacitated and the cashier and other shopper are right-handed.

Hmmm, Jan. Maybe…we’ll see next week. Wish I could be there for the book club today!
The cashier.

Ah, Mindy, a different guess. We’ll see. Thanks for dropping by!
I think the man with the gun did it. The gun is an obvious clue, but also he could have changed out of his bloody clothes in the store room afterwards. It’s a men’s store, so the woman couldn’t have changed clothes, and the man with his arm in a sling couldn’t have changed clothes.
Author
Hmm, good deductions, Priscilla. We’ll see if you are correct next week. 😉 Thanks for dropping by!
I’m going to say it had to be done by a left handed individual, so I’ll go with the one who has his right arm in the sling.

I like the way your mind works, Rosalyn. We’ll see next week. Thanks for stopping by!
I think it was the man with his arm in a sling. The person was murdered by someone left-handed.
Author
Great deductions, Victoria! Thanks for dropping by!
Ooooh, interesting way to pose the mystery this week! I am going to go with the man in the sling.
Author
Thanks, Diane. I may use a few of these for a change. 😉 Thanks for dropping by!
Was there really a murder here? Hard to tell as the guy, although bloody, seems to be holding himself up with his arms/hands. The guy with the sling could be hiding a knife, however, in his sling.
Author
You have studied the picture and have come up with very good deductions, Dawn. Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment!
I vote for the man with the sling, too!
Author
It appears the man with the sling is getting the most votes, Mary. We’ll see next week! Thanks for dropping by!
I can’t wait for your new book, Patricia!! Congrats Lucy!
I’m going to say the man paying the cashier, he just came out from the dressing room from ‘trying on clothes’ and taking care of business. He’s using his right hand to use that in his defense if he’s caught. Somehow he managed to get his dirty clothes and weapon in the bag. Oh and he’s using cash so they won’t trace back a card to him. BUSTED!!
Then again maybe the other guy is covering up defensive wounds with that sling…or maybe the murderer fled the scene. ..no I’m going to stick with my first story. Who pays with cash, unless that’s Dave Ramsey?!
Author
Jessica, with your imagination you really need to think about writing mysteries! Thanks for dropping by!
OR the person (or cat) we cannot see hiding behind the door–cagey one!
Author
Great observations, Delores. We’ll see next week. Thanks for stopping by!
First of all thank you so much for choosing me as your winner. I’m going to guess the guy with his arm in a sling.
Author
Actually, Random.org chose you. 🙂 And I’ll get your book in the mail today! Thanks for being a follower of my blog.
Man in the sling since he could hide weapon in his sling
Author
I like that, Shelia! We’ll see next week. Thanks for stopping by.
The guy checking out.
Author
Could be, Brittany! We’ll see next week. Thanks for stopping by!
HMMM…the guy with arm in sling! Can’t wait to read your newest book!
Author
Thanks, Jackie! We’ll see next week about the murderer. Thanks for stopping by!
I don’t think any of the people in the puzzle murdered anyone because the man who is bloody is still alive.
Author
I like that, Martha! Thanks for stopping by!
I think the salesclerk did it before the store opened and moved the body to a sitting position. I have never seen anyone immediately after a murder, but I think the right leg would be straight out and the body slumped more. It looks like the left arm is holding the body upright which doesn’t seem normal.
I waited until offering my guess to read the other comments. Just an observation or two. I think that is a cellphone in the customer’s pocket but he could have a weapon and bloody clothes in the bag. My initial thought after studying the picture was the man with the sling for the same reasons others have given. I also questioned if the man is actually dead. However, it seems unlikely that he would be sitting there alone if he was still alive. Someone in the shop should have heard something and gone to check.
Author
Great observations, as usual, Edward! Thanks for adding your 2cents worth! 🙂
I am guessing the fellow checking out.
Author
Maybe, Gloria. We’ll see Tuesday! Thanks for stopping by.
I’ll take two guesses. It’s either the cashier or the man that is waiting for his change. The other man with the sling is too obvious.
Author
I like the way you think, Janet! We’ll see…thanks for stopping by.
I’m guessing the cashier. Congratulations, Lucy!
Author
Several people have guessed the cashier. We’ll see, Caryl…thanks for stopping by!
I think it was the man with the sling on his right arm. He could easily have stabbed the man in the other room using his left hand. The cashier and the man paying the cashier are obviously right handed. But, was there actually a murder? The wounded man appears very much alive, just injured and losing blood.
Author
Good deductions, Suzanne. We’ll see Tuesday if you are correct. 😉 Thanks for dropping by!
My guess is the man with his arm in a sling. He can use that to hide a weapon, and he’s whistling…seems to be a ploy to distract people.
Author
Wow, Pam, you’ve thought this through. 🙂 We’ll see if your deductions are on target next week. Thanks for dropping in.
THe guy in the sling
Author
That seems to be the consensus, MS Barb. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
The butler did it….oh wait, wrong mystery…lol! I want to say the cashier because I think she’s the only one with access to the storage room where the victim is (via key?). She just looks too innocent…haha!
Can’t wait to see what the answer is Patrica!
Author
Trixi, by now you’ve seen the answer is the man with the sling. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
