A Few Dumb Crooks

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 46 Comments

A week has passed and we discovered we’d been hit by Hurricane Olga three hundred and fifty miles from the coast.

Most of the power has been restored to our community and I want to thank all the wonderful workers at ACE Power here in Alcorn County for their hard work! And for the men in my church for calling those with limbs down and offering to clean up yards or do whatever else was needed. I love living in a small town where everyone helps everyone else!

Now onto last week’s Mystery Question: Below you will find four facts that sound fake. Three are true, but I made up one. Which one did I make up?
  1. Cleopatra lived closer to the release of the first iPhone than she did to the building of the pyramids of Giza.
  2. The reason chameleons change their skin to fit any color or pattern in their surroundings is to hide from predators.
  3. Ann Frank, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Barbara Walters were all born in the same year.
  4. The Guinness Book of World Records was created to settle bar arguments.

And the answer is…#2. The number one reason chameleons change their color is to reflect their moods–it’s a social thing! And doing so attracts a mate! Or lets another chameleon know one is angry and to leave them alone.

Now onto this week’s Mystery Question: Three of these stupid crook stories are true. I made up one, and believe me, it was hard. See if you can guess which one.
  1. Is it the man who tried to rob a woman only to discover when he was rolling on the ground in pain that she was a taekwondo black belt.
  2. Or a woman wanted for second-degree murder was unhappy with the photo officials used on social media and she posted under the photo “That picture ugly.” The PD Department offered to let her come in and take a new picture. And she did.
  3. Then there was the brainless bank robber who was arrested the day after she posted a YouTube video of her bragging about her crime.
  4. And then there was the purse snatcher who knocked himself unconscious when he sprinted into a glass window that he thought was an open doorway…

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in this month’s drawing for a book from my library.

And the winner of October’s drawing is…Ann Godwin!

Whew, these are tough. They could all easily be true. However, I say you made up #1, but somewhere I’ll bet it has happened even if not reported.
Wow, that’s a lot of clean up to do after that storm! Great work on the part of your church and community. I warms my heart to read of it.

Oh my Patricia! You’re such a convincing story teller! I’m going to say #3 just for the heck of it!

In fourth grade I did the window thing. It was a new school and one day we went to recess through the tall side windows holes and next day there was glass there! So
    I will guess 4.

They all sound crazy but I’ll go with #4. I can relate to what you went through with Hurricane Olga. Almost 3 weeks ago we were hit by an EF2 Tornado. We were in the house when it hit. The deck, porch, garage, 40×40 15′ storage building , all gone in a matter of 10 seconds. Our house is one of 6 which has been condemned. We were able to get our belongings out of the house thanks to the help of church members, family, and friends. We appreciate your prayers.

I’m choosing #1 this time for no particular reason, except I believe #4. Around 1991 just after a new mall was built in our city, one of the exits had double doors on each side of a large plate glass window that went from floor to ceiling. It looked open. I had just entered through one of the doors one day when I heard a ruckus to my left. A woman who appeared to be in her 60s walked straight into the glass because it looked like it was open. Later the mall management put pictures on the glass so it was obvious that it was not open.

I have no idea which one is the made up one this week, Patricia! It’s way too hard, lol! Because really, I can see all of these being true. I’ve read or heard about stories where a man went to rob a woman, only to have her know some kind of Taekwondo or something and beat the stuffing out of him. Just for the fun of it, I’m choosing #3.

You made me laugh with these stories because I can just see the dumb criminal headlines in the newspapers…lol!
