Photos from Megiddo and Galilee

We left Jaffa and Caesarea (I feel a little like Luke here. 🙂 ) and drove to Megiddo on our way to Tiberias. Here’s a view of some of our scenery and the architecture in Israel.

Megiddo is mention several times in the Old Testament and again in Revelation, referring to it as the place of Armageddon. You can read more about Megiddo here. It is believed Solomon housed his chariots and horses at Megiddo and King Ahab built an elaborate water system so that the city couldn’t be cut off from water during a siege. Below is the city gate that has been excavated.

Here are two views of the Valley of Jezreel with Mt. Tabor in the distance. Farther north (but not seen) would be Mt. Carmel where Elijah’s altar stood and where he challenged the prophets of Baal.

This is where Solomon may have stabled his horses.

This is the large grain storage pit where the king would have store grain for his horses. Below it is the water system King Ahab built.

From Megiddo, we drove onto Tiberias and Galilee. Here are some of the caves.

And here we were on the Sea of Galilee on the Halleluia Boat captained by Daniel Carmel. That’s the Syrian border and the Golan Heights in the first photo. Until next week when we’ll be in Poriya…
