Reader Friday ~ Jesus Calling

Patricia Bradley Faith 34 Comments

Blessings on this, Good Friday 2019! Today I’m featuring Jesus Calling by Sarah Young and giving away a copy of the devotional. I’ve been using Jesus Calling since October of 2009. Every day. And every day I’ve made a notation on that day’s page of what’s happening in my life. Here are a few notes I’ve written for April 19:

2010: Thank You, Lord, for your love. Guide me as I am in the schools today. Help me to figure out this writing thing.
2011: Thank you for clothing me in Your righteousness ( a reference to Isaiah 61:10) Help me pull this book together. (Shadows of the Past)
2012: Shadows of the Past semi-finaled in the Genesis. Thank you! (It went on to final)
2013: What a year! I’m now editing Shadows of the Past for my editor!!!
2014: Sitting on my deck listening to the birds. Thank You!
2015: It’s been a cold rainy April. Thank you for Your seasons.
2016: Guide me today. Give me the words for this story.
2017: Guide me as I write today.
2018: Thank you for the birds singing and the sunshine. Help me to flesh out my characters.

As you can see, Jesus Calling has been a record of my dependence on Him to write my books.

For years I would write a “letter” to God every morning in my journal. Sad to say, I got away from that habit a while back. I can remember reading some of my old journals and like you, seeing God’s hand in my every day. This is a good reminder for me to begin again. Thank you for your steadfastness!

Oh, Lucy, how I understand life getting in the way. That’s why I have my quiet time at the beginning of my day. Otherwise, the day gets away from me and I never have it! Happy Easter!

Today’s a powerful reminder that Jesus’ love demonstrated on the cross can never be earned…truly His divine gift. I used to journal…want to get back to it, though my Bible and current devotional have lots of notes!

I don’t keep a journal, but I love the Jesus Calling devotional. So many times, it has spoken to me about things that were on my heart.

I suggest that all who read this comment type in “reviews of Jesus Calling” on their search engines. Many years ago a book called God Calling, which was Sarah Young’s inspiration, was popular. To sit around almost in a trance waiting for “messages” from God always seemed suspect to me since I had once been involved in occult areas before my conversion. Please check out the reviews of this book first and pray about it. It is NOT Scripture, just some nice sounding messages that aren’t from Jesus. Pray for discernment.

Hi Christine! Thanks for stopping by. I always focus on the scripture and look them up rather than the words of Sarah Young, although many times they hit home with me. Often I’ll read the whole chapter with the verse. Wishing you a Blessed Easter!

I actually do not, but what a wonderful idea! I have a sheet of paper where I keep track of my daily bible readings. Does a sheet of paper count? Happy Easter, Patricia!

I don’t keep a journal but I do have a small book that I write in each day – I call it my gratitude book. I try to make note of something that I am grateful for today. Sometimes it is just thanking that I was able to read another good book 🙂
Thanks for sharing what the Lord has been doing in your life!

I started journaling back in the 90s and got swamped with life – unplanned job changes, my wife having some life-threatening health issues, and so much else. It seemed many of these things just zapped my time and energy to the point that I got away from it. I would occasionally make an attempt to get started again. Sometime last year, I made another start. I’m still erratic at times but making strides to improve.

I use a journal to record events, thoughts, book reviews, etc. In the past, I have made notes in my Bible during study times and used to regularly keep a journal of scripture that meant something to me. I am not regular at anything but try. I have the book already so don’t enter me in the giveaway. Happy Easter!

No, I don’t record in a journal but I often make notes on my calendar about weather and things that happened that day.

Hi , I don’t keep a journal, I just write things down sometimes to remind me of different things that need to be done, or just write down different things like if a poem comes to my mind. Thank you. God Bless you.
