Patricia Bradley #CF Facebook Party, Are You Smarter than Your Characters, Mystery Question 51 Comments

Well, I can finally announce that Justice Buried is a finalist for the ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers) Carol award!

The winner will be announced at the gala at the ACFW conference September 23, but no matter the outcome, being a finalist is already winning. If the award is in God’s plan for me, then good! But if not, good, too.

Now onto last week’s Mystery Question. These are statements drivers made to a police officer who pulled them over. Three are true and I made up one. Which is the made up one?
  1. “Isn’t there something we could do to make this like it never happened?”
  2. “I’m not signing this thing. Wait, what happens if I don’t sign. Arrest? So I sign there, right?”
  3. “But officer, no way your radar got me doing 90–everybody knows radar picks up on the biggest object, and that would be the eighteen-wheeler I was driving beside.”
  4.  “I’m in a hurry because the ship will not wait for me. They have to get back to their planet before morning.”

And the answer is…#3! There were quite a few who guess #3. 🙂 By the way, the true statements came from Lee Lofland’s blog. He’s a retired police officer and his blog is a great resource for writers.

On another note, Lisa Hudson emailed me a news report about a burglar arrested in Vicksburg, MS after being found asleep in homeowner’s bed.

Now this week’s Mystery Question: Four more dumb criminal scenarios, one of them false. Which of the stupid criminal stories did I make up?
  1.  While a man was appearing in court to plead not guilty for stealing a car, police were scanning the license plates in the parking lot and discovered one car that had been stolen. Yep, the man pleading not guilty had driven to court in a different stolen car.
  2. A store clerk scanned the lottery ticket the customer handed in and when she saw it was a $600 winner, she quietly slipped it in her purse, replacing it with a $5 winner. After handing the customer the $5, she was arrested by the customer–a Lottery undercover agent who was doing a routine “integrity check” of the store.
  3. Two men used a gun to rob a man of his wallet, then hopped in their getaway car and took off. Ten minutes later the police found them on the side of the road where their car had run out of gas.
  4. Police discovered several bundles of twenty-dollar bills stuffed in the jacket pockets of clothes donated for a charity yard sale. They posted an ad in the paper thanking the unknown person for donating the clothes and offered to return the funny money if the person wanted to claim it. So far, no takers.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which crime did I make up? Leave your guess and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library which will include any of my romantic suspense books.

Winner of June’s drawing is Jerusha Agen!

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your Carol Award nomination!!! So, so excited to hear this!
As for the mystery, I don’t think you would pick #4 two weeks in a row (but I could be so wrong!). I’m going with #2!

Big congrats and you have a daughter named Carole, so you’re an obvious choice. For this week’s nutty caper, I’m going w/ the #4 trend. Do you mean “funny money” as in it was counterfeit? Just wondering but I enjoy them all. And thanks for commenting on my blog post so early this morning.

So thrilled for you that your book is one of the finalist, your choices are very difficult this time because I’ve read some of these “criminals are so stupid statements”,but I think the one you made up is #4

    Congratulations on being a finalist!
I’m going to guess #4 (even though I tend to not go with the crowd, that was the one I was leaning toward before I looked at everyone else’s answers!)

#2–at the customer service desk where I buy groceries, the staff scan winning lottery tickets right in front of the customer, and then pay out the money–I’ve never bought a ticket, but I can’t picture the store clerks being able to slip a ticket in their purses, and being able to “sneak” out a $5 winner! Congratulations on being a finalist! That is exciting news! 🙂

I’m going to go with #2 this week…I would think that a person would know how much they won on a lottery ticket and wouldn’t be fooled when the clerk only handed a $5 bill instead of $600. But stranger things have happened I suppose! 🙂 Seems these get harder every week.

Super congrats on the ACFW finalist Patricia! I saw several author names on the list and was happy dancing for every one of them (you included)…how fun!! 🙂
