Release Day!

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 28 Comments

Exciting news!! Justice Buried releases today!!! It is available at Amazon, B&N, and Christian Book Distributors! As well as other outlets. And I’m hosting a giveaway this month!

Now onto today’s blog…I hope everyone had a fun Labor Day. I had a great day writing. 🙂

Even though it’s over, I decided to do a little research on Labor Day and some of the things I found out were:

  • It’s the unofficial end of Summer and wearing white shoes until Easter.
  • It became a federal holiday in 1894.
  • It’s also celebrated Canada on the first Monday of September.
  • two people are credited with starting Labor Day — Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor and Matthew Maguire of the Central Labor Union.
  • Oregon is the first state to observe the holiday in 1887.
  • When I went to school, the day after Labor marked the beginning of school.

Around here, Labor Day isn’t that big a deal. No parades, no speeches, and no whoop ti doo. Most people spend it working in their yards or resting. How about where you live? What kind of celebrations do you have on Labor Day?

Now for last week’s Mystery Question: This is over-the-top crimes. Three of them are real, one is not. Which is the false crime?
  1. Crooks use an industrial forklift to snatch ATM from its foundation.
  2. A pigeon-drop scheme for $20,000 went afoul when the “pigeon” turned out to be a retired police chief.
  3. At the end of a bus journey, a suitcase full of drugs was picked up by the wrong man. He turned it in and the police placed FaceBook posts inviting the owner to claim it.
  4. There was a Nutella alert after 20 metric tons were stolen. Prior to that, a trailer was stolen and police are checking to see if there is a connection.

And the answer is…#2! Congrats to Becki, Paula, Caryl, and Jackie for guessing the incorrect crime!

And the winner of the August drawing for a copy of Justice Buried is…Caryl Kane! Who just survived Hurricane Harvey!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question: There are four really stupid crimes below. Only three are true. Which crime didn’t happen?
  1. A man broke into the apartment of a 93-year-old man who happened to be a still practicing Karate black belt. Let’s just say even though the Karate master was 93, he still had what it took and knocked the burglar out.
  2. A 37-year-old man drove a stolen Lexus to court on the day he was about to be convicted for an unrelated auto theft charge. Make that two charges.
  3. A burglar broke into an antique store in the middle of the night, triggering an alarm. When the police arrived, they found the burglar inside a coffin, pretending to be dead.
  4. Krystal and Denis rifled a delivery truck looking for the urine samples they had just given to their probation officer. They found the samples and destroyed them, but were caught. Then they had to give a second set of samples which turned out to be positive for meth. The kicker? The original samples were negative.
Okay, Super Sleuths, what is the crime that I made up? Leave your answer in the comments section to be entered in a drawing for … either a book from my library or a print copy of Justice Buried.

Hi, Pat! Congrats to Caryl . I saw the pictures of her house! Glad she and her Mom are back in it!
I’ll pick #3. We didn’t do too much special yesterday. Went to Radio Shack for a sale. Ended up with some connectors, cable and scored a cute telephone table for ten bucks. I think they are remodeling.

Paula, sounds like my kind of Labor day! I ended up going to Lowes for stones to put in front of my front door so the step down wouldn’t be so long. And reading Rachel Hauck’s The Writing Desk…can you imagine that might be my featured book this Friday? Or next.

Congratulations, Pat! I am looking forward to reading it. I am going to guess #3. Please pray for us on the Gulf coast of Florida with Irma barreling this way.

I really hope it’s #4. Labor Day-this is the first year for the university I work for to declare it a holiday for staff. We would work and get time for the day, or if your dept allowed, you could take off. But this year there were no classes. But no celebrations or anything going on. Have read Justice Buried and it’s a great book! Didn’t want to put it down or finish it.

Happy Release Day, Pat! Yes, Mom and I made it through Hurricane Harvey. We are not yet back in the house. Still dealing with the aftermath. I’m praying for those in Irma’s path. I’m guessing #3 is false.

Congrats Patricia on the release of Justice Buried! Isn’t it fun to see your book babies out in the world?

I think I had to laugh at every one of these scenarios this week! Especially the robber in the antique store hiding in the coffin pretending to be dead! I’d say that was clever at least in the robbers mind 🙂 Also the urine sample story, the originals were negative…sheesh…lol! Some pretty dumb criminals. I’m going to go with #4 though it’s plausable 🙂

Thanks for the fun questions every week, you stump me every time. Congrats to Caryl on winning your book this month!!
