Reader Friday – Deadly Proof

Patricia Bradley Book Review, Reader Friday 16 Comments

Welcome to my Reader Friday blog. This week I’m reviewing Rachel Dylan’s Deadly Proof. Here’s the back cover copy and then my review.

In the biggest case of her career, attorney Kate Sullivan is tapped as lead counsel to take on Mason Pharmaceutical because of a corporate cover-up related to its newest drug. After a whistleblower dies, Kate knows the stakes are much higher than her other lawsuits.

Former Army Ranger turned private investigator Landon James is still haunted by mistakes made while serving overseas. Trying to forget the past, he is hired by Kate to look into the whistleblower’s allegation and soon suspects that the company may be engaging in a dangerous game for profit. He also soon finds himself falling for this passionate and earnest young lawyer.

Determined not to make the same mistakes, he’s intent on keeping Kate safe, but as the case deepens, it appears someone is willing to risk everything–even murder–to keep the case from going to trial.

My Review:

Rachel Dylan’s Deadly Proof will keep you on the edge of your seat from the get-go. Kate Sullivan isn’t after the big bucks a lot of lawyers seek. Instead, she wants justice for her clients. I really enjoyed this story with its complex characters. Her antagonist in the courtroom, Ethan Black (who is not the love interest) struggled with his desire for success against taking the moral route and Dylan did a great job with his character. The hero, Landon James, had his own demons and wrestled with them in a believable fashion.

This was my first Rachel Dylan book, but it won’t be my last. Dylan’s story-telling reminds me of John Grisham, except she has much stronger and believable endings.

Available at Amazon and B&N.

I just finished A Walk Across the Sun by Corban Addison, the only book John Grisham has ever endorsed. It’s compelling plot is based on the true tentacles of child kidnapping, trafficing and porn. Mostly based in India, it also stretches to France and then the U.S. It’s a must read I highly recommend that readers will never forget.

Earlier this week, I finished proofreading a soon to be released novel and began proofreading another a day or two later. I read War Room by Chris Fabry, the novelization of the movie by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. I highly recommend the book and the movie. I am now reading Defining Moments by Vernon Brewer. It is non-fiction and quite moving. He is the founder of World Help and has spent his life helping many thousands who cannot help themselves while distributing Bibles and leading people to Christ.

I definitely want to see the movie, The War Room, Edward. It is so hard for me to settle myself down long enough to watch a movie. Will probably read the book first. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. What book are you proofreading, if I can ask?

Since I’m dealing with Harvey aftermath, reading has been a challenge. I hope I’ll be able to slow down and curl up with a good book soon.
